Huay Xai to Pak Beng- day thirty seven

Today we took a slow boat to pak beng. We left the hostel really early and grabbed a tuctuc to the ‘harbour’. The tuctuc wrapped all of our backpacks to the top of the car.

I spent the majority of the day reading but when we got to the homestay we went to a school and played with the kids there. They live in really small, basic housing and it made me realise how lucky I am to live the life I do, these kids were so happy, despite the fat they were wearing clothes too big or too small for them, which hadnt been washed for weeks on end. I guess it made me realise how money can’t buy you happiness and what makes you happy is what is important in life.

We then had a ceremony at the end of our evening. We ate rice from bamboo leaves and then was blessed by the local communit. They all went round in a  circle tying bands onto our wrists and then asked us to take a shot of Lao vodka.
